• What is a flying lesson? A flying lesson involves a one on one training session with your instructor. It constitutes of a 45 minute briefing outlining the lesson followed by a flight of about one hour duration. This is followed by a post flight briefing to prepare you for the next lesson.

| • What licence do I require? The Private Pilot Licence is that first step in becoming a pilot. If you are interested only in recreational or private flying, the Private Pilot Licence is perfect for you. Other students aiming to become a professional career pilot will need at first, a Private Pilot Licence, then the necessary training for a Commercial Pilot Licence.

• How is payment organized? At New England Flight Training, we do not require any upfront payment. You simply pay as you go.

• Are there any additional costs? Our PPL course takes into account costs outlined on the “flying training” page of this site. However, there are indirect costs that include Aviation Medicals, CASA exam fees, Flight testing officer costs and Departmental publications.

• How long does it take to achieve a Private or Commercial Licence? The length of time taken varies on how often a student can fly. A student who flies twice a week will take substantially less than a student who can only fly once a month. This will often affect the number of total hours as well as overall time taken to complete a licence. To minimize lessons spent on review, we recommend regular, continuous training.

• Is there an age limit? No. Given the fact that the world is now experiencing a massive pilot shortage, the opportunities are endless. The world’s aviation industry is in desperate need for more and more pilots.

| • Can I still fly with glasses? In most cases, Yes. Glasses and contact lenses may be worn to meet the requirements for a successful Aviation medical examination.

• What do I do next? We recommend a Trial Instructional Flight. This is an obligation free, 20 minute flight in which you will take the controls of an aircraft whilst under the supervision of an Instructor. This will allow you to have the feel of flying and see if a pilot lives within you. You will also have the opportunity to ask further questions about flying training. The cost is $85 paid upon completion of the flight.

• What does the future hold for me as a pilot? The opportunities presented to pilot graduates today are endless. Aviation
spans across a wide spectrum which includes Airlines (Regional, Domestic
and International), the Agricultural industry (Crop Dusting & Spraying),
Charter work, Flight Instruction, Aerial Survey, the Defence Force and
assisting organizations such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
